September started with the spell of fine weather we are used to in autumn and the winter months. A soft breeze, a peaceful flat sea and lots of sunshine. Nature also seems to be recovering. Green leaves can be seen on the bushes and the aloes are turning green again. We have had a little rain and the plants indicate that more is to come. Let’s hope so. The quiet summer months are over and activities are attracting more visitors again. For us it felt that we got into a rollercoaster again with amazing encounters and excursions. For example, there was a beautiful exhibition in the Aljibe of Haría by Juan Peña.
King gave a Reiki course, which felt like a spiritual deepening for the participants.
CHARCO
*Saturday 7 october Party in Charco
There is a new mayor in Haría who, if all goes well, will now stay for four years. He has taken on board all the wishes of the village. Let’s hope something is done with it. This involves maintenance and innovation. And they want to organise a party with music, drinks and snacks. At the end of the newsletter is the schedule.
*Containers – unfortunately a number of waste containers were set on fire here early one morning. Most annoying.
*Water – for the past month we have been without water regularly. Fortunately, most houses have a water reservoir (aljibe), but for some residents it was still very trying. When I made enquiries, I was told that this is partly because Lanzarote has old water mains. They burst under high pressure. These are now being replaced and it is therefore necessary to regularly turn off the water supply for a few days. And there are technical problems at the machine which change sea water into drinking water. Let’s hope this will be finished soon.

*La Plazita will be open again after holiday s the first week of October.

LANZAROTE
For years, a large group of volunteers have been active in Lanzarote cleaning up the beaches and elsewhere. It all started in Famara, where volunteers have been collecting trash once a month for years. It has now grown to thirty groups across the island. More than eight tons of waste was collected in 2022. Mancha Blanca
Thousands of residents enjoyed Music by Juanes during the festivities of Virgin los Dolores. This annual celebration and pilgrimage is about the legend of the volcanic eruption of 1730, which started and lasted until 1824. On July 13, 1824, the inhabitants took the statue of the Virgin los Dolores on their way to the lava that slowly flowed towards Mancha Blanca. A cross was placed there and when the lava flow reached it, the river of lava stopped in its presence. Thus saving the residents of Mancha Blanca. It is also called the virgin of the volcanoes
Walks
A nice walk Los Cocoteros (30 minutes) and Costa Teguise (approximately 3 hours)
A short walk to Los Cocoteros is always wonderful. Make sure you wear good walking shoes because the path is strewn with lava stones. You will come across a caldera where seawater rushes in and out, sometimes with a big roar. People swim in it when its quiet. But rather a challenging climb down.
Just before reaching Los Cocoteros there is a renovated dwelling, which now has fine landscape garden.
In the village of Los Cocoteros there is a Community Center and a Teleclub El Riadero restaurant, which is open almost every day from five o’clock pm. Only closed on Mondays and open on weekends from noon. Closed on Sundays at eight o’clock, open on other days as long as there are customers. The food is good, simple and cheap.
If you want to take the longer long walk to Costa Teguise, continue the path along the coast. You come across the ‘Salinas’, a salt production area just south of Los Cocoteros, run by Juan. Past that you turn right to walk around a bay.
Then simply follow the coastline over hills and valleys. In Costa Teguise there is a beautiful boulevard with lots of cafés
Message from the city council of Haria.
Dear residents,
The new government team of the City Council of Haría decided to organize a party in Charco del Palo, as – other than the other villages in the municipality – this never took place in our village. Coming Saturday October 7th an “Oktoberfest” will be held on the supermarket square, with this schedule and prizes for the best Bavarian costume of man and woman for the party.
