The month started stormy, windy and some much needed rain. Fine, sunny weather for the rest of the month. Calm seas and many tourists again. There are many people from France in Charco at the moment.
Restaurant Jardin Tropical is open more often and many more people have found the naturist terrace for lunch. And there is a barbecue in the evenings. L’lli’s Paradise is now also open everyday from 12 am. and Sundays music with DJ Antonio 5 pm
The tourist attractions all over Lanzarote are also busy. If you want to go to Timanfaya, make sure you arrive between 9.00 and 9.30 am!
A sad message
The first woman in the ‘in the picture section’ was Ann Dyck. Ann knew a lot about medicinal plants. But Ann is no longer with us. She could not overcome a serious illness. We remember a special, caring woman who had a great knowledge of the natural world. We will miss her in Charco and wish her husband lots of strength.

Lanzarote news
Last weekend there was a very big festival in Teguise. ‘Saborea’ that means taste. Well there were hundreds of stands with delicious tapas and also the best wines. Restaurants and bodegas from all over Lanzarote and other islands presented their specialties. According to reports, there were 35.000 visitors per day. But you could easily reach the treats.
El Bulin en Guatiza is closed for some time. People in Guatiza miss their meeting place and people from Charco there coffee. But they said it will be open again in December.

PIERCINGS AND TATOOS
More and more people have a tattoo or piercing and this is clearly visible in Charco. Usually it is for adornment, but often it also tells a life story. They are sometimes true works of art on which a lot of time and money is spent. But there is also a women made Tarot cards with tatoos.
A piercing can also boost pleasure whereas it may evoke a feeling of disgust to others. But Charco is the place where you can admire and be admired.

LIVE AND LET LIVE
When you go to the sauna for the first time, you have to cross a threshold: being naked around other people. After some time that threshold is no longer there. Naturism is also a hurdle that is easier to overcome afterwards. The freedom of being in the sun in the nude gives a wonderful feeling. You don’t want to go back to a wet bathing suit.
Some time ago we were confronted with a new threshold. Someone we had not seen before came to the monkey rock. It was a man covered in tattoos, with piercings, ear decorations and silicone protrusions. His lip hung down from the weight of rings and his earlobes had large holes. His whole body covered in tattoos. It was so extreme that I didn’t dare to look and certainly didn’t dare to speak to him. There was a buzz of disapproval on the Monkey Rock and whispers. We were all shocked by his appearance. So he sat alone, in a kind of isolation. A man who was placed outside our community as if he were a leper. After some time, King decided to start a conversation from the point of view of ‘not talking about but with someone’.
It turned out that he was a follower of ‘Extreme Body Art’. It appears there are groups in the world who compete with each other to be as extreme as possible. To his own surprise King had a fascinating conversation with this man and new worlds opened up. He met the man behind the decorations and that was surprising.
We also understood that many people also look at naturists that way and have an opinion. Understanding on both sides is the right thing here.
WALKS
to Galeria De Arte Enmala and Villa Placeres.
A walk through the dunes to Mala is easy. When you arrive in Mala, look for ‘the Farmacia’, the pharmacy. Opposite is the road towards the ‘Arte Enmala’. A gallery where various exhibitions can be admired.. Open Sat – Sun from 10-20.
Opposite this gallery there is a beautiful cactus garden. Villa Placeres. The owner has since passed away but family is now taking care of it. It’s worth having a look at it. Large and small cacti can be admired from the street.

One of the last works of the genius César Manrique was inspired from his visit to this idyllic hidden garden, a place that the vast majority of people did not know existed as it is a well-kept, privately owned secret.
Villa Placeres has some very beautiful cacti, very special and huge that have been photographed thousands of times. When you visit this place bring out your camera to capture this incredible corner of Lanzarote. This place, despite being a hidden and secret corner from the general public, has received visits from ministers, presidents and artists and its some spots there have been used by major brands for their promotional campaigns, such as Vogue magazine itself.
Villa Placeres keeps a true treasure with millions of seeds from more than a thousand different species of cacti, seeds that would fill the whole Canary Islands archipelago and Spain with millions of cacti.
