Because of the rain in January now lots of flowers everywhere. They seem to give light. It is a pleasure to walk in the hills behind Calle Osa Major. You find purple fields there.
CHARCO NEWS
Fortunately, in February, after a few weeks with strong winds, peace and quiet once more and we were able to enjoy a very flat sea and lots of sun. There was music again as well. We enjoyed a few nice evenings in La Plazita with pincho’s and music. Dani had the same concept that we are used to. So pinchos on the bar and take your pick, delicious. It is also always nice to meet villagers and tourists on a Friday evening.
The Cueva Paloma also had music on Valentine’s Day, let’s hope they do that more often. And love was not forgotten here either…
Stephan Hohlweg is back. Today, March 1, he will give another open-air concert. This time Frédéric Shopin.
Ronald Visser came from the Netherlands to sing live songs and mantras, together. Ronald is a conductor and plays the piano and we have sung with him in the Netherlands for years. Lanzarote news
*Mythical deep-sea fish washes up on the coast of the Canary Islands. On February 10, beach goers made a special discovery on the island of Lanzarote. On a beach, they found a washed-up oarfish, or king herring. It is a silvery, ribbon-shaped fish that normally only occurs in the deep sea and is therefore rarely seen. The oarfish also have a mythical reputation: for years, they have been seen as predictors of natural disasters and earthquakes. “Something bad is going to happen,” many responded on social media. Let’s hope not.
*’Punto Limpio’ is open again. The waste disposal station in Arrieta was closed for some time due to staff shortages and unclear policy. Now large waste items can be taken there again.
*Watercrisis Lanzarote and La Graciosa
Everyone knows that there have been problems with the water supply for five years now. However, this year they intend to solve the problem.
The measures are:
-Repair pipes that leak (they have been working on that for some time). 56% of the water is lost. The desalination plant and the network of pipes are 32 years old.
-Two parts of the ‘Lanzarote III’ plant are broken and are now being replaced.
-3500 new membranes have been purchased to expand the reverse osmosis
-Land has been purchased in Tinajo to create a storage facility.
-And a new pipe will be installed to supply water to La Graciosa

At Ermita de las Nieves large boulders have been placed along the edge of the Famaracliff. Probably the idea is to prevent cars from falling over the cliff.
The Aloë Vera
Beautiful flowers are growing again along the roads. The aloe is also in bloom and the birds then suck up the nectar. You can also taste the sweet liquid if you breakoff a piece and suck it.
The aloe is known for its medicinal properties.The leaves produce a yellow bitter liquid that, mixed with water, helps against periodontitis (a gum affliction). I regularly brush my teeth with this liquid.The gel from the leaf also gives relief against sunburn. There are several types. The Aloë Vera is the most famous. But the Aloe Aborence also grows here.

Pareidolia
Pareidolie of pareidolia is een psychisch verschijnsel, een vorm van illusie waarbij iemand een zodanige interpretatie van onduidelijke of willekeurige waarneming heeft, dat hij hierin herkenbare dingen meent waar te nemen. De naam is afkomstig van het Griekse para(naast) en eiddolon (beeld). Wikipedia.
In Guatiza in November 2023, as a guest of Charco I took photos of those beautiful plane trees between roughly the supermarket and El Bullin. I think they are in bad health, possibly the roots cannot go anywhere, but the upside is that it does make them graphically interesting. Especially from the El Bullin terrace, I was followed for a long time by the local seniors: why is that man lying on his back in the pigeon droppings taking photos? So now I was the one who was crazy. I’ll add a few animals within the marine life theme. I hope you recognise them.

WALKS
The Corona
Perhaps described before but always a nice walk that is not difficult. The Corona that occupies the north like a crown is definitely worth a visit. From Ye there is a footpath that is rather flat at first and then it goes up. (40 minutes max) You end up at the crater. At the moment you are no longer allowed to walk down or around the crown but the view of this immense crater is always impressive. Especially in the morning when the sun is still on it. The view from that height is also beautiful. You see the ocean to the west and east, the castle and Mirador del Rio.
How to get there
Drive via Haria to Maquez in Ye, park at the church. Walk a bit further along the road until you find the sandy path that leads to the Corona. Enjoy the walk!
DAILY LIFE
Silvester, the cat
His owner lived in our garage for a while. Now that he has moved, Silvio, as we call him, still comes to us regularly.
He walks in with an air of owning the place. He only drinks water when you leave the tap running and is always curious about what we are doing. Makes contact for a moment and then goes his own way again. Climbs on top of the cupboard where helater jumps down onto the couch with a thud. He is very agile. He also climbs onto our roof and then runs from one side to the other. We no longer see the few pigeons that regularly came to visit, nor do we see the mice. He is a very sociable housemate. He stays over sometimes. He then cuddles up against you and leaves again when he has had enough. Lovely, such a passer-by.
